Compromise?

Last night Mike and I went out to dinner. Our conversation went a little something like this:

Me: Miles needs a haircut.

Mike: No Way! It’s awesome!

Me: No, it looks stupid. And it is hanging in his eyes.

Mike: No Way! It’s awesome! I don’t want to cut it for at least a year!

Me: But I want to get it cut tomorrow….

And so our conversation continued in this manner for several minutes. I finally realized a solution would NOT be found that evening. So I gave up.

But today, I came up with the perfect compromise!

Mike can rest-assured, Miles’ hair will continue to grow into long, lustrous locks. I am happy because it doesn’t hang in his eyes all day. And honestly, Miles doesn’t seem to mind either.

Win-Win-Win?

Randomness

Naughty chair time, Nap time, or Potty time?

008 Trick question. It’s all three. Miles fell asleep while on time-out. He also pooped in his diaper before he fell asleep. But I wasn’t surprised because he ALWAYS goes #2 when he is relegated to the naughty chair. ALWAYS. I think its his way of getting back at me.

005

The little guy is also very mindful of my camera. He loves the darn thing. And now he has perfected his very own, trademarked, Zoolander like, model pose. When seeing a photograph of himself tickles his fancy, he climbs up to the table, strikes his pose, and say’s “Mom….Cheese!” Then he just sits there and waits patiently while I click away.

008 After an 8 month break, I finally sat down at my sewing machine. It seems everyone in my ward is having a baby. I have had 3 baby showers in the last 2 weeks. So I have been digging into my scrap piles and have been whipping up some soft, minky, blankey goodness. Currently working on 3 more of these…but for boys.

This was a custom order for a little girl’s birthday, and I LOVE it. If only I had a little girl to wear it. But I don’t, so I have to live vicariously through everyone else. This watch band will soon be available in single and double stranded bracelets in a variety of colors in the Shop. They would make a perfect addition to a little girls Easter basket, if you ask me!

Disney – Part 1

Aunt Rachel has requested pictures.  And More Pictures.  And even more where those came from.  And seeing as I have yet to post about our family vacation, I figured I would spare you my written word and just show you the highlights instead.

If you’re not a fan of pictures, you can thank Rachel for this.

Day 1 - My little Vikings – At Epcot

I think Mike is quite striking as a blonde haired woman.

004

After the Finding Nemo ride at Epcot, Miles was NOT excited about posing with Bruce the Shark.

Epcot isn’t very entertaining to two year olds, so after half a day we took the shuttle over to the Magic kingdom.

014

Waiting in line to see Woody and Jesse in front of Splash Mountain.  It rained most of that first day, but we didn’t mind.  We had umbrellas and rain jackets.  And the rain kept the crowds at bay.

Miles was not excited to see Pocahontas, but as long as I held him, he was Okay.  But he LOVED Mickey Mouse.

Pulling out the big guns

I kindly interrupt my lack of blogging tonight because I simply can't help it.

I have a little boy that strongly dislikes going to bed
(We don't say "hate" in our house. But if we did, I dare say that is the word I would use to describe his feelings about something as boring as sleep)

This boy of mine is smart. Too smart for his own good.

He definitely out smarted me tonight.

You see, I put Miles to bed a little early because he didn't have a nap. Something he was COMPLETELY upset about. So he cried a little. Then a lot. And when I walked across the kitchen to tell him one more time it was time for bed, I was stopped in my tracks.

There was my Miles, standing in the dim glow of his fishy night light, BIG alligator tears rolling down his cheeks......

WEARING HIS MICKEY MOUSE HAT AND SUNGLASSES!

SERIOUSLY??!!

What am I supposed to do with that?

I laughed so hard I nearly lost bladder control.
Picked him up and brought him out to his dad,
so we could share a good laugh together.

And then he got some ice cream.

(Look at that smile! This kid knows what he's doin')
I am certain he planned the whole thing.

Christmas.....But First

I fully intend to author a heartfelt post about our family experiences during the month of December.

I have an exciting New Years resolution I have well underway......More on that too.

But for now, Nana is missing her little wild man and has personally phoned me to request updated pictures. So I couldn't help but share the fun we had today enjoying the fruits of the first (and probably last) snow storm of the year.

Playing "King of the Mountain". If I tried to even take a step in the direction of his mountain, Miles would simply yell "MOM....NOOOOOOOOOO!"

All Smiles.....for the first 10 minutes

11 minutes in the snow......and he's had enough. It made the remaining 1 hour and 19 minutes I spent shoveling the driveway SUPER enjoyable.

But eventually, he found something he quite enjoyed. He kept shouting to our neighbors, "I haf teat, Mum Mum!" Translation: "I have treats! Yum Yum!"

After some hot chocolate and a snack, (other than frozen snow, ofcourse) I let Miles turn on a cartoon. It just so happened the characters were attempting a Tango, complete with a cartoon flower. And wouldn't you know it....I just happened to have a vase of flowers on the table leftover from our 5th anniversary.

Do you see where I'm going with this?

In 2 shakes of a lambs tail, Miles found his flower and watched VERY carefully while doing a tango of his own.

If I took a step toward him, or tried cut in and Tango with the little guy, he simply said, "MOM......NOOOOOOOO!"

But he DID "pick" me a flower out of my anniversary bouquet and gave it to me with a big hug and kiss. That's better than a Tango any day.

Hiatus

I'm back from hiatus.

You might be wondering where I hiated to.

You might not.

You might be wondering if I made up the word hiated.

(I did.)

We have had a wonderful vacation. Mike has been home all month. We went to Florida and enjoyed Disney World. We spent Christmas in Ohio with our dear friends. And missed our family back home.

And my sweet Grandma Barnard passed away.

It has been a month full of ups and downs.

And I'm excited to document it all.............Later.

For now, I'm just going to put it off for one more day.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

2009 has brought big and exciting changes to the Romer family. In June, Mike graduated with Honors from medical school. The very next day we packed the moving truck and headed for the Great Lakes State. Michigan is green, beautiful, and HUMID! But we love our community and have great neighbors.

Mike’s residency program keeps him busy, busy, busy! He works long hours but is learning more every day. He loves the work (not the hours), and the interaction he has with his patients. When he’s not working, he is home playing with Miles, teaching the 8-9 year old Sunday school class, and trying to squeeze in a basketball game.

Sarah spends her days chasing around that wild and crazy Miles, and couldn’t be happier. She has become a pro at finger-painting and story-telling. She recently started a small business making jewelry and beaded watch bands and loves the new creative outlet.

Miles is growing up so quickly, and only operates on two speeds: Fast and FASTER! He is constantly running, climbing, and getting into everything! He loves to sing, and if you give him a good beat, he’ll entertain you with his sweet dance moves. He is funny, charismatic, and is the light of our lives.

We just returned from Disney World, where we spent a week with Sarah’s parents enjoying the warm weather. I am happy to report the first official Romer Family Vacation was a success!

Wishing you all the Peace and Joy of the holiday season,

The Romer Family
